Inception – The App
by Remote Control Production
Prize: Free
Gamecenter: Achievements
Requirements: iOS 4+, Headset with microphone. iPhone 3GS, 3rd generation iPod Touch, or newer. 300MB HDD space.

Inception – The App is based on the concept from the movie with the same name and is… uh… what is it really? I have such a hard time explaining what this really is so I’m gonna quote the intro from the App Store:

This app is a dream machine that transforms the world around you into a dreamworld. It uses augmented sound to induce dreams through the headset of your iPhone or iPod Touch. It will change your perception of reality.

Sounds fancy doesn’t it? Keep in mind that this was written by the publisher, so it might be a little bit PRish, but still, it’s no doubt a cool and alternate experience that this app gives you. After a short tutorial that explains how things work, you are left to explore.

By accepting the location service that this app provides, your main screen is a satelite image of where you are. The screen is divided up in sections looking like puzzle pieces where your real life location is the image. Each piece is a dream. Early on, you only have a few unlocked dreams, the rest of the pieces are black. Clicking on them lets you know what dream it is and how you unlock it.

Inception - The App: Main Screen

To start playing, experiencing or whatever you wish to call it, you click on the three downwards pointing arrows. It will induce a dream. When in a dream you will hear some instrumental music. If you talk into the microphone or the sounds around you is loud enough, this will change how the music in the app appears. This is also partly how you unlock new dreams.

Inception - The App: Inside a dream

For instance, you can induce the Still Dream by sitting completely still in a noisy place. It either has to be noisy or you can blow into the microphone. To unlock other dreams, it may have to be sunny outside or you have to be in motion. Two of the more extreme dreams tells me that it has to be full moon outside and the other tells me I have to be in Africa to unlock it.

To use this app, you need to have a headset with a microphone and when you induce a dream, you can put the phone in your pocket, because you don’t go into dreams by clicking on the screen, it’s what you do in life that gives this app it’s needed input. The noises and sounds from real life is captured by the microphone and the depending on the dream, it will have different effects on the music and sounds you will hear from the app.

The app in itself is flawless as long as you give the permission to use the GPS service, and I could easily give this app a 9 out of 10 even if it didn’t have Gamecenter support. For this is more an experience than a game where you would look for achievements. The developer did however include them and they don’t work at times, which makes it impossible to complete them.

Verdict
Don’t let the faulty achievements stop you from getting it though. Inception – The App is not only a great experience, but it’s completely free. This app is great for everyone that will try something different, and you can easily use the app while you do your normal daily activities. You don’t need to see the movie to appreciate it either, as it only relates to the concept of the movie and not the story.

+ Great Experience
+ Great use of augmented sound
- Achievements are glitched

Score: 8 – Very Good

3rd Batch of Seasonal Events in GT5

Guide | Posted by Pesico
Jan 07 2011

Late last night, 5 new seasonal event was added. Not only have they been made easier, but there is even more money to earn. Event 4 and 5 nets you Cr. 1 mill and Cr. 1,5 mill respectively for 1st place. They have even made the requirements of the last batch easier by letting us tune the cars as much as we want.

You're driving a Citroen C4 WRC in the 5th race.

This time around we get to drive the Citroën C4 WRC car on the Rome circuit. It’s a very easy race if you buy the few available tuning parts. The car itself costs Cr. 850,000, but if you can get golds in the Sébastien Loeb Rally Challenge (Special Events), you get it for free.

In the other races you get to drive a Toyota Prius G ’09 on Gran Valley East, a Audi TTS Coupe ’09 on Cape Ring North, a Lotus Elise 111R ’04 on Nürburgring GP/F and a Ford GT ’06 on Trial Mountain Revers. If you follow my Race Series Guide, you will get a profit of just over Cr. 3 million out of these 5 races, provided you get the Citroen C4 WRC for free. If not, subtract Cr. 850,000 from that sum.

None of the races where any difficult. For more detailed information about what parts you should buy, check out the Race Series Guide over at ps3trophies.org

Racing Set-Up

I’ve never really driven with a wheel when it comes to racing games. Different versions of the Dual Shock has been perfect for me since the PS1 days… until now. Some of the harder challenges in Gran Turismo 5 is to hard with a Dual Shock 3. I’m looking at you Red Bull Challenge! So I decided to get a wheel and it arrived today. I planned to make a blog post with impressions, but in stead, I’m gonna make a whole series of blog posts covering how each series in GT5 works with a wheel for a wheel noob like me.

First and foremost, I want to introduce my set-up. It’s a PlaySeat Champion racing chair and the important part, the wheel, is the Logitech G27. It’s a high end wheel, meaning it costs a lot, but it’s one of the better wheels on the market which made it an easy decision.

Mazda Furai Concept '08

It’s pretty safe to say that I love Gran Turismo 5, and until LBP2 and Mass Effect 2 is out, it’s gonna feature heavily on this blog. I was hoping to write a blog post about what I think of my new Logitech G27 and PlaySeat and how they work with GT5, but I can’t. They’re in each of their own boxes at a delivery depot roughly 30 minutes of car ride away from where I live. So close, but yet so far away.

In stead, I’m gonna talk about what I’m spending time with in GT5 these days. It’s not been much racing, except for the odd grinding Indy – Superspeedway in the American Challenge for money. Apart from getting cars ready for my wheel to arrive, I’ve been collecting colors. Yeah you heard me right, and feel free to call me crazy. I’ve also been collecting Mazda Furai Concept ’08 cars in different colors. I’m up to 6 different colored Furai’s at the moment, but that “Gran Turismo Red”-colored one still finds a way to escape me. And how do I go about getting all these Furai’s you ask? No? I’ll tell you anyway.

PSN Trophy Card: Pesico

Last year, I sat some pretty hairy goals, and it was only fair in a time I used to play any game as long as they had trophies. And it started pretty good with both Dirt 2 and Need For Speed Shift Plats in January 2010. Then I got addicted to Uncharted 2 Multiplayer for months and in the end, I wasn’t even close to reaching my goals. The important thing though, I had a lot of fun, so I don’t see it as a failure.

This year, I’m gonna try and set some achievable goals. The challenges will be my addiction to Gran Turismo 5, and the fact that my two favorite online games (and offline for that matter) releases later in the year. I’m talking about Resistance 2 (September) and Uncharted 3 (November). Anyway, the following is my New Years Gamerlutions for 2011:
